What are the requirements for the drape test, and what are its methods?

The drape test is evaluated through the tactile sensation caused by human hands touching the fabric and the visual response to the fabric's appearance, namely hand feel and visual inspection. It is applicable to general fiber sheet products. So, what are its requirements? What are its methods? Let me introduce them to you below.

I. Requirements for the drape test

1. Outerwear fabrics: have a wool-like feel;

2. Underwear fabrics: have a soft cotton-like feel;

3. Summer fabrics: featuring a lightweight, smooth silk-like feel or a crisp, smooth linen-like feel;

4. Winter fabrics: characterized by fullness, thickness, crispness, softness, and fluffiness.

II. Methods of Style Testing

1. Pinching

Pinch the edge of the fabric with three fingers, with the right side facing up, the middle finger on the bottom, and the thumb and index finger on top. Twist the fabric crosswise to determine its characteristics such as smoothness, elasticity, thickness, and body.

2. Touching

Place the fabric against your palm with your thumb on top and the other four fingers underneath, then repeatedly rub the front and back of the fabric to determine its characteristics such as thickness, softness, tightness, and smoothness.

3. Grasping

Pinch the local fabric surface into a ball with varying degrees of pressure, repeatedly grasping and releasing it to determine characteristics such as elasticity, flexibility, softness/hardness, fullness, and crispness.

4. Inspection

Carefully observe from local areas to the entire width of the fabric to determine the quality of the surface luster, yarn texture, selvedge, pattern, color, twill, and weft bars.
