Flexible sensors are intelligent detection devices used in fields such as biology and medicine. They are categorized into piezoresistive, piezoelectric, capacitive, etc., and possess unique characteristics. The materials are soft, have a low modulus, and are easily deformable. I believe most of you are not very familiar with this, so next I will introduce the relevant content regarding the types and characteristics of flexible sensors. I hope you enjoy it.
I. Types of Flexible Sensors
1. Piezoresistive flexible pressure sensor
Piezoresistive flexible pressure sensors are sensors based on the piezoresistive effect. Under the action of external forces, the active material deforms, indirectly changing the distribution and contact state of the internal conductive material, thereby causing a regular change in the resistance of the active material.
2. Capacitive flexible pressure sensors
Capacitive flexible pressure sensors are devices based on the principle of parallel-plate capacitance, offering advantages such as high sensitivity, fast response, and a wide dynamic range. Their working mechanism involves changing the capacitance of the sensor by altering the distance between the parallel plates when an external force is applied.
3. Piezoelectric flexible pressure sensors
When certain dielectric materials are subjected to an external force along a specific direction, polarization occurs within them, leading to opposite charges appearing on their two opposite surfaces, or creating a potential difference. This phenomenon is known as the direct/inverse piezoelectric effect. A class of sensors developed based on the piezoelectric effect of dielectrics is called piezoelectric sensors.

II. Characteristics of Flexible Sensors
1. Flexible materials are a concept corresponding to rigid materials. Generally, flexible materials possess properties such as softness, low modulus, and easy deformability. Common flexible materials include: polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyester (PET), polyimide (PI), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), paper, textiles, etc.
2. Flexible sensors refer to sensors made of flexible materials, which have good flexibility and extensibility, and can even be freely bent or folded. Moreover, they feature flexible and diverse structural forms that can be arbitrarily arranged according to the requirements of the measurement conditions, making it very convenient to detect complex measured objects. New flexible sensors are widely used in fields such as electronic skin, healthcare, electronics, electrical engineering, sports equipment, textiles, aerospace, and environmental monitoring.
That's all for today's sharing on flexible sensors. I hope it helps those who need it.
